Cuba itinerary for 14 days arrival and departure Havana

Cities to visit: Havana, Pinar del Rio, Vinales, Cienfuegos, Trinidad, Ciego de Avila, Camaguey, Bayamo, Santiago de Cuba

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Day 1 Havana

After arrival at the airport you take a taxi from the airport to your casa particular or hotel. There are enough taxis outside of the airport. You should pay around 30 cuc for a taxi from Havana airport to the center of the city.

It is recommended to make a reservation for a hotel or casa for your first night. After this go with the flow

Day 2 Havana

Visit the historical part of the city; Habana Vieja (Old Havana), relax at terraces with live Cuban bands singing romantic boleros and Cuban traditional songs, walk through Habana Centro to see and feel how the real Habaneros live.
At night I suggest to visit the traditional closing of the harbor, El Cañonazo, at 9:00 pm at El Morro. Afterwards restaurant Dona Carmela is on walking distance of El Morro, where you can have a real Cuban meal in the lovely garden.

Day 3 Havana - Pinar del Rio - Vinales

Pick up your rental car in the center of Havana or close to your casa or hotel as early as possible. Most car rental agencies are open at 9:00 am

The ride right away to Vinales should take about 3 hours, on the way you could stop in the center of Pinar del Rio City. The last part of this trip is through the small mountain range of Vinales. A lovely and beautiful ride.

Day 4 Vinales

Vinales

Visit a tabaco farm, hike truth nature or do a horseback riding. Sit on the porch of your casa with chicken at your feet. Dream away with the views of the Mogotes at the terrace of Hotel La Ermita Watch a local baseball game in the cute small baseball "stadion" of Vinales. Smell the real rural life of Cuba.

For the night Vinales has 2 small and 1 larger bar (Centro Culturo Polo Montanez) with live music and salsa dancing.

Day 5 Vinales - Cienfuegos - Trinidad

Cienfuegos

Early departure from Vinales to Trinidad. This ride will take the whole day, at least 7 hours. Leave early so you will be in Trinidad before dark! It is NOT recommended to drive at night in Cuba if you are not used to it.

Do a stop-over in Cienfuegos for a few hours. From Cienfuegos to Trinidad is 1.5 hour drive by car.

 

Day 6 Trinidad

Visit the historical city, hike in the Escambray mountains (Topes de Collantes) and sea Playa Ancon, Trinidad stunning white beach and azul blue sea.

For the night, turn on your dancing shoes, dance the salsa and enjoy live music at the Casa de La Trova and Casa de La Musica

Day 7 Trinidad - Ciego de Avila

Today you will drive from Trinidad to the capital Sancti Spiritus and after a short visit continue to Ciego de Avila.

From Sancti Spiritus to Ciego de Avila:
Continuing for the Central Highway you can find the cities of Jatibonico, Majagua and Jicotea. About 100 km of distance, with beautiful places to both sides, you can see flat territories

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Day 8 Ciego de Avila - Camaguey

Taking the Central Highway it is a 150 km trip crossing the center of the island and passing by small and distant towns. Here you will be able to see sugar cane fields to both sides, cattle and fruit-bearing territories.

Following this route you will find the small cities of Colorado, Gaspar, Piedrecita, Alganabo, "Carlos Manuel of Cespedes" and a bigger one Florida.

One of Cuba's historical cities, Camaguey, among the first ones been founded by Spaniards in the Isle. It is a city with many old buildings, churches, parks and squares. It is very well conserved that's why people can appreciate the typical city that the Spaniards used to settled down in their colonies.
The best hotel is Camagüey Hotel, two kilometers far from downtown. From this place you can enjoy two quite different types of distraction.
One is Santa Lucia, a beach 60 km far from the city. It is a beautiful coast of sand and sea.
Four comfortable and modern hotels allow the visitor to lodge and enjoy the charms of the place. In Santa Lucia, besides taking a bath in its calm waters it is also possible either the aquatic activity, yatismo, diving, and fishing or driving to Cayo Sabinal. This is a magnificent territory with beautiful beaches and cabins to lodge.

Day 9 Camaguey

Visit to the city of Camaguey, in specific for train freaks this is the place to spot steam trains!

 

Day 10 Camaguey - Las Tunas - Bayamo

About 250 km separated both cities, which are capitals of the provinces with the same names.
Driving for the Central Highway you can pass by nice and small towns such as Sibanicú and Cascorro, until getting to Las Tunas. Some kilometers before arriving to the city, the visitor can lodge in El Cornito, a typical country facility very appropriate to the place.

After Las Tunas you will drive down to Bayamo

 

Day 11 Bayamo - Santiago de Cuba

Going from Bayamo to Santiago de Cuba, there is Santiago de Cuba City, the capital of the province with the same name, the second city in importance with a great historical tradition, you travel following a route with small oriental populations at both sides of the highway.
Jiguani, Maffo, Contramaestra, Palma Soriano and San Luis. They sum 400 km in total.

Santiago de Cuba is located in the Southern part of the country, in the coast and it possesses a splendid bay.
It is most known hotels are Casa Granda, Melia Santiago de Cuba, Versalles and San Juan. For a stay at the beach you might choose for Hotel Bucanero
Of course Santiago de Cuba has many casa particulares to choose from.
In Santiago de Cuba city and its province you can enjoy numerous tourists places of great interest.

 

Day 12 Santiago de Cuba

Enjoy the many historical interests this city have, Moro castle, the Moncada Barracks and don't forget El Cobre

 

Day 13 Santiago de Cuba - Havana

Drop off your car at the airport of Santiago de Cuba
From Santiago de Cuba you will take a domestic flight back to Havana. Be wise and make a reservation online to be sure you're on it
