Hostal Nercy y Oscar
My review: Our experience with Casa Nercy y Oscar has also been very positive. We stayed in the house for 3 weeks and we enjoyed every minute of it.
The house is very comfortable and clean.
A big treat is staying on the roof terrace from which you can enjoy the view over Santiago or follow the lifes of other families on the street.
Nercy and Oscar are very friendly and helpful. They are well educated and interesting people to talk to. Nercy found a spanish teacher for me and was always ready to help solving our big and small "tourist" problems.
Casa specifics: Quiet, Fantastic hosts, Comfortable, Colonial, Cozy, Roomy, Charming, No frills, Safe
Amenities: TV, Private entrance, Airconditioning, Private bathroom, Laundry service, Balcony, Ceiling fan, Breakfast service, Dinner service, Kingsize bed, Bathroom with shower
How was your room?: Our room had a private entrance, bathroom and a little dinning room. The room had both air condition and a celling fan. There was a big closet in the room which we enjoyed having during our long stay. Bathroom had a lot of storage place, something we really appreciated, and a shower with hot water.
How was the food they offer?: On a few ocasions we ate dinner in the house. The meals were very tasty and Nercy prepared really, really big portions.
Other services they offer: The room was very close to the kitchen which we used to make our own breakfasts. Having own refrigerator gave us a lot of flexibility.
There is also the laundry service in the house and a washing machine.

Nercy y Oscar
My review: This is a great homebase to use to get to know Santiago from. Everything Lars
said is correct. Nercy y Oscar's familia is eminently gracious and
hospitable, their view is beautiful and casa has a wonderful roof deck which
guests are free to use. Room is private, with good A/C and fridge, and
breakfast was wonderful, huge and tasty with good coffee, fruit, eggs, etc.
They offer some good smelling dinner but I was too busy to try it.
The location in Santiago is outstanding. The best known street names for
their location seems to be Sanchez Hechevaria, near corner with Reloj.
The official "San Geronimo" name causes a bit of confusion for cabbies,
but you are very near the main plazas, so don't sweat it.
The family was wonderfully helpful with everything I asked for, including
using their phone, and talking to Cubanos for me. They are very classy
people, offering a classic economical lodging.
Casa specifics: Quiet, Fantastic hosts, Comfortable, Cozy, Roomy, Charming, No frills, Children in the house, Patio
Amenities: Private entrance, Airconditioning, Private bathroom, Minibar, Balcony, Breakfast service, Dinner service, Queensize bed, Extra bed available, Bathroom with shower
How was your room?: Outstanding location, great privacy, entry/dining room with fridge,
bath, good A/C, fan, aquarium(!), but no TV or radio so bring your own tunes
(or maybe a dimestore clock-radio gift?). Tile floors, extra single bed
included in room. Spare but servicable furnishings. Not many electric gizmos
in room, and not a lot of decoration. The roof patio is very nice and has
great views, when you want to chillax a bit.
How was the food they offer?: Un desayuno magnifico con cafe, frutas, huevos, pan, chalchica, queso.
Nercy privately served me a huge delicious breakfast every day which was all I
needed to eat until next morning. Dinner is also available, based on your
morning discussion of chicken, pork, fish, or other, which Nercy goes to buy at
market and cook for you. They supply some sodas and beers in fridge but it's
very easy to go nearby to buy all the water, soda, and beer you want. All
prices were reasonable and made clear at time I arrived.
Other services they offer:
*) Hang out on rooftop deck, many chairs available to socialize.
*) Use shared phone line in the family room, and will speak to other Cubans
for you on phone as needed.
*) Kind helped solving my goofy tourist problems.
*) Family had at least scooter parking available for me in their garage, but I
did not use it or see the garage.
Other comments: No real internet avail, CJ should remove "internet" from listing. The
family has some kind of tragic dialup, but it's not in the main room of the
house, so guests should go to Etecsa (near Parque Cespedes) during 9-5 on
weekdays, and cross your fingers. Go Go Go new telecomm cable from Venezuela!
And hey, don't touch that electric showerhead. It's working fine right there, Bucko. Viva Cuba!

Casa Hostal Nercy y Oscar
Review
The Hostal Nercy y Oscar was a very good choice for us. We stayed there for one night and enjoyed the place, which is quite close to the centre. The accommodation has got its own entrance and a private bathroom. Everything is very clean and the hosts are very friendly. The daughter speaks very good English.
We got very good food for dinner and breakfast and from the terrace one has a very good view over Santiago until the Sierra Maestra.
