Casa Adrian y Tonia
My review: We were a party of 9 cyclist traveling through Eastern Cuba and we spent a night with Adrian and Tonia at their wonderful casa. They have 3 rooms on the 2nd floor that share a large covered terrace with a great view overlooking Manzanillo. One room has 3 single beds and the other rooms have 2 twin beds or queen beds. All the bedrooms are very clean and comfortable.
Adrian was very helpful in finding accommodations just down the street for the members of our group that they couldn't accommodate at Casa Adrian y Tonia. One of our party had gotten something in his eye earlier in the day while cycling from Niquero to Manzanillo and because it was still hurting hours afterward thought he should have a doctor take a look. Adrian cheerfully drove us to the local hospital and stayed with us helping to facilitate the Dr visit and secure the prescription eyedrops afterward which was very kind of him.
Manzanillo's main square was hopping on the saturday night we spent there and we really enjoyed walking the streets, seeing the sights and dining on street food.
The following morning we were served a delicious early breakfast on the terrace as the city was stirring to life. All in all this was a very enjoyable stop on our cycling adventure. I highly recommend Casa Adrian y Tania!

Manzanillo
I visited one about 10 months ago, which was really nice. I didn't actually stay there--I had come to a musical event marking what would have been Celia Sanchez' 85th birthday, to be held on the steps of her memorial, which as you probably know, is a two-block-long street paved in tile steps leading to the top of the hill called Calle de Caridad. Halfway up, right on the corner of Calle de Caridad and Martires de Vietnam, at Martires de Vietnam #49, was ADRIAN & TONIA's place. I was on my way to an event in Niquero that evening, so couldn't stay the night, otherwise I would have, because it was a nice home, the rental rooms air-conditioned. And on the roof was a shaded patio with a view of the ocean a few blocks distant. Adrian spoke English, and was very knowledgeable about how to get to the Pearl Islands and other places of interest in the Manzanillo area. I passed through the kitchen while Tonia was cooking dinner, and judged from what I saw and smelled that she was a very good cook. So...if you want to include them, the phone number is 23-53028. The price was 30 CUC, which I thought a little high, but considering that there's only one other licensed casa that I know of in Manzanillo, and the other one is not very nice, maybe that's more reasonable than it seems |
